Rescue Ring Story From Haiphong Harbor Rescue

In Tucker’s case North Vietnamese ships closed in near Haiphong harbor aiming to seize him after bailing out. Vermilya said enemy vessels lay about 100 yards away until Tucker’s wingman Lt. Cmdr. Foster Teague and other pilots drove them off with gunfire. The helicopter crew plucked Tucker from the harbor as ground fire raged, with Chief Petty Officer Tom Grisham and another crewmate lifting him aboard.
