Market Shows Mixed Close on NYSE Stock Activity
New York AP By CHET CARRIER The stock market posted a mixed session as wholesale price data weighed on the tape with the Dow slipping 1.16 to 1,473. The NYSE composite rose slightly to 54.43 and the Amex index inched up while activity totalled about 16.9 million shares. Major losers included Burroughs Toughé and Polaroid with some gainers from industries and retail midweek August sales reports, Sears slipping while Woolworth rose modestly. The broader market saw Dow at times paring losses before finishing lower.
