Mrs Mary Shumate Allen died Friday night at 6 15 at her residence 720 Holbrook Avenue after years of declining health. Born September 15 1900 in Pittsylvania County she was daughter of Henry B Shumate and Nannie Robertson Shumate. She lived most of life in Danville worked for Dan River Inc retiring 20 years ago. She married Grover Lee Allen on December 24 1927 who survives her along with three daughters Mrs Rudolph B Montgomery Danville Mrs Marvin Rolfe Richmond and Miss Iris Langston Allen Alexandria four sisters Mrs Claude Allen Chester Penn Mrs Essie Moore Mrs Elma Chatham and Mrs Oma Amos Danville and three grandchildren. Funeral from Wrenn Yeatts Chapel Sunday at 2 00 pm with Rev M N DeHaven officiating. Burial Highland Burial Park. Body remains at funeral home. family at 2887 North Main Street.
