White Rhodesians Upset Over Stand Taken By Archbishop of Canterbury

Rhodesia news reports show British born white leaders angered by Archbishop Ramsey's calls for force. Prime Minister Wilson met with Smith and Nkomo seeking a formula to delay Rhodesia's future talks while opposing troops. Campus petitions show students back Johnson Viet Nam policy

About 15 937 signatures were gathered from students and faculty of a 35 580 member university in advocacy of U S Viet Nam policy and sent to Rep Charles E Chamberlain for President Johnson. In Washington Rep Joe Pool urged a full HUAC probe of groups aiding the Viet Cong saying some may be treasonous if war were declared. AP poll findings cited Yale Harvard Cincinnati and Oregon administrators noting only small fractions protest while most students stay focused on studies.

Youth Involved In Two Fatal Auto Deaths In Spartanburg

In Spartanburg County eighteen year old Rickey Hyder pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the July 20 1964 death of Isabelle Alston Stuart 49 of Savannah and faces another case over the October 7 1963 fatality of Ronnie McAllister Doggett 16. Judge George T. Gregory ordered two years in prison and indicated further action on the second case may come when the grand jury reconvenes. Both wrecks occurred on the same stretch of U S 176 north of Inman. Stuart was killed in a truck crash while Doggett died in a car crash with Hyder driving. The two accidents involved identical make compact cars.

Viet Nam Guerrilla Actions Reported Near Base

July 1 small Viet Nam detachment killed a U.S. Air Policeman, destroyed three planes and damaged three more. Six weeks later guerrillas hit a fuel depot near the base. Paratroopers killed 37 Viet Cong near Qui Nhon as 201 bodies were counted since Get. 19. South Vietnamese and U.S. forces reported 383 Viet Cong killed in Phu Yen Province.
