Plans Revealed For Horsley Blake Wedding On Friday

Miss Deloras Marie Blake, daughter of Mr and Mrs Gloria H Blake, will marry Carlton Wayne Horsley, son of Mr and Mrs Andrew J Horsley. Annual Mum Show Slated In Richmond

The Virginia Chrysanthemum Society announces its 15th annual show at the Carillon Richmond from October 29 to 31 with the theme Moments with Mums. Hours run Oct 29 4 to 9 pm Oct 30 1 to 9 pm and Oct 31 12 30 to 7 pm. Trophies and blue red and white ribbons will be awarded in both horticultural and artistic divisions. Allen Hedgecock Truth Announced In Leaksville Engagement

Mr and Mrs Thomas James Allen announce the engagement of their daughter Martha Stone to Jimmie Frank Hedgecock. Martha earned a bachelor of music degree from UNCG and is in Greensboro for graduate work. Jimmie Hedgecock is a UNCG music major pursuing a master’s in music. First Suit Under New Fair Employment Act Filed

The NAACP filed what it calls the first suit under the Civil Rights Act fair employment provisions. The action names Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. and seeks an injunction to stop discriminatory hiring practices. Annie Brinkley of Wilmington is the named plaintiff in a class action representing all Negroes. Local attorney Lisbon Berry filed in U S Eastern Court seeking back pay from the denial of employment to the present.
