Ford Nominated For Vice President

Nixon announced Ford as his choice for vice president after outlining the need for unity and leadership. He stated the qualifications sought and tipped Ford as the man, while court rulings discussed mandatory tapes disclosure and presidential privilege amid the Watergate sting. Kissinger Says No Evidence Soviet Syria Attacks

Kissinger warned of a delicate Middle East situation and said there is no evidence the Soviets encouraged Syrian or Egyptian attacks. He urged end to hostilities on just terms and a lasting solution, preferably via the UN, while avoiding a broader flare up. Ford opposition shapes draft war control bill murky compromise

The draft bill requires a president to withdraw U S troops after 60 days if Congress rejects war moves, with a possible 30 day extension for military necessity. It allows Congress to halt war with a simple concurrent resolution, and mandates presidential consultation and a 48 hour report to Congress detailing reasons, authority, and scope.
