The UAW international executive board in Detroit unanimously approved a tentative strike-ending contract with Ford Motor Co. Vice President Ken Bannett announced after a three-hour meeting that the next step is to offer details to the union. He said the timing reflected explanation, not disagreement, about the offer.
At White Sands Missile Range New Mexico a massive nonnuclear explosion simulating a one kiloton blast occurred using 600 tons of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil.
