Virginia's 4H Livestock Judging Team won the national title at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago finishing first among 29 teams. Members George Smallwood, Scott McIntire, Bill Hedge, and Frank Graves represented Clarke, Augusta, and Madison counties. Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Maryland followed. Smallwood led individuals in sheep and swine judging, McIntire topped beef cattle, and the team edged Illinois for top beef judging. Randall Updike, Clarke County agent, coached the Virginia team.

Chicago corpsman killed in Austin knife fight
David E. Smith, 18, a Job Corpsman from Chicago, was fatally stabbed twice in the back during a street fight in an Austin area near a tavern. Police said the clash involved a group of Job Corpsmen from Camp Gary and local youths, with murder charges filed against Byron January of Austin. Smith, son of Mrs. Geraldine Smith, arrived at Camp Gary Nov. 4 and had been in welding class with a good camp record.

Norfolk reports an order to exhume the body of 16 year old Francis Richardo West, who was found hanged in solitary confinement at the city prison farm on November 11. Judge Lawrence H.
