Nine Men Missing As Crane-Rigged Work Boat Sinks
A 170-foot crane-rigged work boat sank off Santa Barbara eight miles offshore while dragging anchors for the Blue Water II platform. Reserve units demobilized early amid wider mobilization
The 154th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron completed a four month tour at Itazuke Air Base Japan and will be replaced by the 192nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron from Richards-Gebaur AFB Missouri. About 38,000 reservists across Air Force Army and Navy were called up in late January and mid May for up to two years. Navy reserve squadrons were reduced by six, Seabees by about 1,000. Army plans keep about 20,000 on duty, while 174th 175th and 189th groups faced earlier releases, shaving three to six months off their expected demobilizations. Four aerial port and aeromedical groups announced last October remain slated for end of 1968 demobilization.
