In the Dominican Republic two small conspirator bands attempted to seize central town areas on Monday but were repelled by armed forces and police. In Temboril, 85 miles north of Santo Domingo, rightists captured a radio station and proclaimed a revolutionary government as seven armed men held municipal authorities.
The rebel group in Temboril declares Dr Tomas Aldabiades Espinosa Acosta, a Santo Domingo conservative, as president and seizes the local radio station before the army retakes control by 5 30 am. Police arrest 28 after blasts strike Charlotte North Carolina, with Gov Moore calling them dastardly and the NAACP head fearing large demonstrations. The bombings injure families including the Alexanders and Chapmans, with bodies unhurt but homes damaged. FBI in Charlotte reports about 20 agents on the case.

Honolulu AP report says Maggie Young, 38, wife of Air Force Capt. James F. Young, drowned five of her children after recent mental breakdown treatment. Police say she admitted, “I killed my children.” One son, Alfonza Stokes, year-old, was also wounded in a separate incident. She faces first degree murder charges in the deaths of her children and is held without bail. A court hearing is set for Wednesday.
Crowds gathered from Massachusetts to West Berlin to honor John F Kennedy. Mrs Hugh D Auchincloss laid lilies at his grave while Sen Edward Kennedy placed carnations and chrysanthemums.
