Automakers May Seek Fresh Price Hikes for 1974 Models
Ford and Chrysler told the Cost of Living Council they may seek a second price increase for 1974 cars, citing rising costs and sagging sales. American Motors suggested no further raise if the latest request is approved. Ford seeks about 188 per model, GM 208, Chrysler 136, and AM 114, totaling a 5.1 percent rise costing 2.3 billion. This would cover new labor contracts and previously approved safety and environmental features.
