Woman Remains Alive 11 Days On Heart Pump Suffer Stroke
Louise Ceraso a Brooklyn widow age 63 has been kept alive for 11 days by an artificial left ventricular pump at Kings County Hospital She suffered a cerebral stroke at 41 p m Saturday while unconscious and in critical condition The pump which supports 50 percent of heart function was not operating at the time and doctors say the stroke is not connected with the device The device was designed to be permanently implanted and later adjustable for patient control It had been tested on 350 dogs and used in one prior human case with unrelated complications
