Under New Rules Official Sees No Major Hike In Grading Of Beef
USDA official David K. Hallett testified before Judge Robert V. Denney that the new beef grading standards will not substantially raise grading costs or time. The Independent Meat Packers Association and 10 allied groups oppose the rules, arguing higher stamping and yield grading costs will lift consumer prices. Testimony covered chain and rail methods, stamps, and proposed eliminations designed to speed grading.
