Danville MDTA Training Plan Scrapped Over Race Bias Rules
Danville Virginia faces a revised plan for a Goodyear maintenance mechanics program after a Labor Department ruling requires recruitment of minority applicants without regard to qualifications. The MDTA funded course must drop high school and age requirements, remove aptitude testing, and broaden outreach while documenting race and education data. Bennett of the local VES says Goodyear is removed from the program though graduates may still seek employment, with 36 previous applicants deemed qualified under the old standards. A $50,000 MDTA grant was sought to finance training and provide subsistence for learners, with a mandatory report to the federal agency detailing procedures and outcomes.
