Nixon orders 25 districts to draft desegregation plans

Washington AP reports the Nixon administration orders 25 school districts in 12 states to draft new desegregation plans by April 10 or risk federal funds being at stake. The districts must eliminate vestiges of dual systems, with more districts reviewed for compliance. HEW officials said some busing may be required. The action follows a Feb 16 ruling by Judge John H. Pratt and NAACP Legal Defense Fund suit. The DC Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the appeal April 16.

Brown on trial for assault and robbery at lounge

Virginia hears of segregated higher ed past in 1969 letter
