Rex Sparger a former Oklahoma legislator and congressional investigator admitted rigging ratings of four national TV shows to expose the rating system and aid a book. Nielsen filed a $1.5 million damages suit alleging theft of trade secrets. Sparger claimed he gathered names from trash outside Nielsen and by tailing a field man. He named two shows a Carol Channing special and a Bob Hope Vietnam special and hinted at two more. he dismissed the suit as ridiculous.
