Sergeant With 18 Years' Service Arrested In Theft

Los Angeles based FBI reports a staff sergeant with 18 years in the Army was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on a complaint alleging theft of 365000 dollars in unmarked small bills from the Fort Polk finance center. Bobby Gene Sartain, 40, faced a magistrate after attempting to collect luggage from a Memphis flight. He had access to the vault and was said to have used an alias James. He awaits a magistrate appearance as investigators probe the missing money and an unnamed accomplice. The case involves Army and FBI agencies with the post near Leesville, Louisiana.

Four Slain In Brantley Tavern Mystery Deepens

Four men were found shot to death in Glenn's Tavern near Brantley Alabama. Police say the killer is at large with no suspects. Victims were from the Brantley area and the operator E. Alex Kennedy. One clue cited is a small cash register containing 35 cents. Investigators reported the scene late Friday and continued work Saturday as they pursued possible motives and suspects.

Snow Chokes Raton Area Stranding Residents

Heavy blowing snow blocked roads across northeast New Mexico with up to six inches more in towns like Raton. Eight inches reported in Las Vegas and traffic on I 25 halted from Las Vegas to the Colorado line. A school bus driver and five pupils were stranded on a rural road. Clayton lacked telephone service as roads to Raton closed and winds piled snow six to eight feet high.
