New Jail and Office Space Debate in County
Easley advocates converting the old high school into an office building and adding a jail adjacent to it to save costs. He cites a $117,000 renovation for the office and $330,000 for a new building, with the jail using the cafeteria-kitchen space to save $1,000 per cell. Other supervisors favor a rear-of-court-house jail-office complex despite higher costs. The Bar Association opposes moving County Court from the County Office Building, favoring a location behind the Court House if feasible. If the old high school is not used, the School Board may repurpose it for administration, still requiring renovation funding.
