President Bhutto meets with India amid tense Kashmir talks
The meeting between Pakistan and India focuses on Kashmir and the possible normalization of relations after years of hostility. Bhutto signals a cautious approach, stressing that any settlement should not provoke further regional strain and must address long standing disputes.
Indira Gandhi Faces Pakistan Talks Amid Mutual Distrust
Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi aims for durable peace with Pakistan as Bhutto's past stance fuels skepticism. Possible prisoner releases and high-stakes issues like troop disengagement, territorial exchanges, and restoring diplomatic ties shape the summit, with Kashmir looming as the toughest point.
Kashmir Talks Hint at Territorial Settlement
Indian minister signals willingness to drop claim to two fifths of Kashmir if Pakistan accepts sovereignty over the remaining three fifths. Western diplomats in New Delhi expect agreement on peripheral issues such as restoration of diplomatic relations border reopening and partial troop disengagement.
