RALEIGH AP Jim Thornton a 48 year old radio and TV personality was arrested here Wednesday in connection with counterfeit money investigation. After a hearing before a US commissioner Thornton was bound over to federal court with bond set at 1 000. Four others have been arrested in the past two weeks in the same case. Roy Stahl of Raleigh was arrested June 2 in Hagerstown Maryland with 8000 in bogus bills found under the seat of his car. Stahl was caught after counterfeit $20 bills were passed at drugstores there. Two more were arrested the following Monday charged with conspiring with Stahl Victor G Byrd 95 and Lewis Edward McLeod 45. McLeod a former radio announcer had an apartment on Thornton's dance club ground floor. Thornton was arrested at his apartment in his nightclub. Assistant U S Attorney Alton T Cummings said the charge alleges knowledge of a counterfeit operation and possession of counterfeit money without reporting it.
