Quaker teacher convicted in W-4 fraud case in Greensboro
Lyle B. Snider a 26 year old science and math teacher at Carolina Friends School in Durham was convicted of filing a false W-4 claim stating the world’s billions as his dependents. He received 30 days in jail for contempt plus an eight month prison term on the tax count for the fraud. His wife Sue received a 10 day suspended sentence and two years probation. Snider refused on 16 occasions to stand for the court, prompting the contempt verdict. Appeal notices were filed by both Snider’s attorney James Rowan and Norman Smith for the NC Civil Liberties Union. The tax conviction followed a six member jury verdict delivered Thursday. Snider said he claimed the billions as dependents to oppose war and show love for people worldwide.
