Duplication Of Sex Attractant Hints Pest Control Breakthrough
Government scientists report isolating and duplicating the pink bollworm sex attractant, hinting at lure traps to control the cotton pest. The Beltsville team notes the chemical, 10-propyl-trans-5, Trulecadieny acetate, can attract males even when diluted and stored, potentially aiding anti-pest efforts. Participants include William A. Jones, Martin Jacobson, and Dial F. Martin. In a separate note, two South Carolinians receive invites to the President's Medicare Conference in Washington on June 15, Dr Julian Price of Florence and James M. Daniel of Columbia Hospital.
