Piece Of Charcoal 5 380 Years Old Found In Virginia
RICHMOND AP A charcoal piece from a fire pit at the Peaks of Otter site along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Bedford County is dated by radiocarbon to around 5,380 years old. Archaeologists say the site was used by a small band of early Indian hunters in a lake-building project, with the group possibly about a dozen people. Man’s first North American presence dates back roughly 10,000 years, with some experts believing much earlier.
