The three bodies recovered by nightfall were John E. Moore nine Pamlico Thomas Wilkins Warsaw and Kenneth Sutton fourteen Pamlico. The missing youth was Chessie R. Wilson fourteen Warsaw. Frankie Clayton eleven Warsaw and Billy Harris fourteen Faison were pulled from the water. Clayton in good condition Harris admitted to Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville in fair condition. Police said the Negro boys were swimming with other 4 H youths when they entered a deep hole about 15 to 20 feet from shore and could not swim out.
