Doctors Favor Expanding Memorial Hospital Over a Second Facility
A 40 person meeting at Christ the King Lutheran Church heard doctors urge continued expansion of Memorial Hospital rather than building a second hospital in Danville. They warned a second facility would waste money and dilute services, noting Memorial’s current investment of 12 to 15 million dollars and the regional need for a unified system. The panel praised Memorial’s accreditation, nursing school, and recent equipment advances while outlining a two-step expansion plan totaling about 13.45 million dollars to reach 800 beds and enhance neurology, radiology, and other departments. The discussion touched on financing limits and the city’s obligation, stressing that a single, strong hospital best serves the community’s growth.
