Most Americans Take Hopeful View Toward Death
New York AP reports a national survey finds 58 percent optimistic about death for themselves or family, with 14 percent religious and 14 percent secular in outlook. About 24 percent hold a pessimistic view marked by anger or resignation, while 18 percent are ambivalent. The study, titled The Ultimate Values of the American Population, was conducted by NORC and funded by the Henry Luce Foundation, noting Jews show higher pessimism than gentiles and Irish Catholics appear most hopeful among Catholic ethnic groups.
