USC Fired Professor Faces Hearing On Tenure Claim
The University of South Carolina argued at a hearing that Ashley Halsey Jr. was not entitled to an explanation for his May dismissal. Halsey, a journalism professor and administrator, had continuous appointment but no tenure, the university contended. Judge Grimball indicated a ruling would take at least 40 days. Halsey sought a written explanation and a board hearing. his attorney argued he was effectively a faculty member protected by the faculty manual. Halsey has asked the AAUP to review the case.
