Inmates Hold Wisconsin Prison Amid Fires
Inmates at Waupun Prison in Dodge County Wisconsin seized about 14 hostages including guards and supervisors during a late Wednesday disturbance in the three story industrial building. About 75 inmates participated as fires were quickly controlled and negotiations began with officials led by Warden James Mathews. One hostage, Roland Witte, was treated for head injuries and released to show good faith. Security reported no gunfire and overall prison conditions remained normal aside from the incident.

Committee Votes To Hold Up Funds For B-1 Bomber Work
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a defense bill totaling about 10 billion but voted 13 to 12 to withhold B-1 bomber funding until February. The measure cuts defense outlays 33 billion below the White House request and a billion under House approval.
