Defense Scores In Hearing On Wilson Leaf Sales Plan
In New Bern North Carolina the defense in a tobacco anti trust trial argued that plaintiff Cozart Eagles and Co held a continuing advantage on the Wilson market under a performance based selling time system used 1952 to 1961. The firm claims the Wilson Tobacco Board of Trade and eight Wilson warehouses conspired to replace the system with the modified unit method in 1961 due to Cozart’s market lead. Eagles testified about farm ownership and Cozart's stake in farms, noting many were tenant or family holdings. The case seeks 524000 dollars in damages and a court order blocking the modified unit system. Trial began last week.
