Solzhenitsyn Urges Congress to Rise to Tasks of Age
Alexander Solzhenitsyn appealed to more than 100 lawmakers to set aside partisan divides and confront Soviet power. He urged Congress to act beyond diplomacy and interparty conflict, warning of a coming world crisis and a shift in spiritual values. He was escorted by Senators Jackson Helms Case Biden and others after Ford initially declined a meeting. Ford later expressed willingness to meet, which Solzhenitsyn had not yet confirmed.
