Early Native Life in the Area According to three Explorers
Three 17th and 18th century observers John Lederer John Lawson and William Byrd provide the primary white testimonies on local Indian life. They describe round bark cabins with central plazas circular villages, simple wealth shown by leisure time, and limited possessions. Their accounts illuminate how these peoples lived before European contact and the Iroquois incursions.
