Bill Introduced To Protect Appalachian Trail
WASHINGTON AP Rep John G Dow D N Y has introduced in Congress a bill to preserve the Appalachian Trail in its natural state. The 2000 mile route from Maine to Georgia faces encroachment from population pressures and may lose large segments without protection. Dow says current agreements cover only land owned by government or state and call for safeguarding undeveloped sections. The proposal aims to protect areas not yet covered by existing pacts.
