State withholds road contracts over steel price dispute
Richmond and Raleigh reports say Virginia and North Carolina highway authorities will not award or bid federal aid road contracts until the steel price controversy with Bethlehem Steel and Inland Steel is resolved. Officials warn federal funds could be at risk and bids are paused on Interstate 64, a U.S. 60 bridge project, and Appalachian development work. The move follows a $5-a-ton steel price hike labeled unwarranted by the federal government.
