It Was Bad Day For Lady Delegates In Richmond
AP reports a rough session in the Virginia House of Delegates with lady delegates’ bills struck down in General Laws. A welfare measure by Del. Marion Galland was briefly killed then revived on a later vote, while pig tax and other bills moved forward or stalled. House actions reflected debates over welfare authority, motor and highway rules, kindergarten funding, newborn PKU testing, and hunting license fees, with a push toward possible changes in the election laws.

The trial of J. Robert Jones of Granite Quarry grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan on a perjury charge tied to his divorce was postponed. Raleigh attorney Lester Chalmers sought the delay citing insufficient prep time due to other commitments. Chalmers also defends Jones and other KKK leaders charged with contempt of Congress for not turning over Klan records to the House Committee on Un American Activities.
