Pretzel Recall Over Lye Crystals Warned by FDA

The FDA warned that several Pepperidge Farm pretzels and related brands may contain lye crystals capable of burning the mouth and throat. About 1056,000 cases were affected, with 37,000 under company control and 19,000 still in distribution. Pepperidge Farm recalled all Peppridge Farm and Billy’s Pretzels from a Pennsylvania plant, after two Detroit customers suffered mouth burns. The products were made in New Holland, Pennsylvania, and marketed nationwide and regionally under multiple brands.
