Jaycees Help 67 Children Shop for Christmas in Danville

Danville Jaycees along with Faith Home and Hughes Memorial Home organized a shopping tour for 67 children. The event, part of the Empty Stocking Fund drive, allocated 1000 dollars and offered a 10 percent discount at Mason's Department Store with wrapping help from Fayetteettes and a 30 percent lunch discount at Bonanza Sirloin Pit.

The funeral for Eugene Thacker 74 of Danville Rt 3 will be Sunday at 2 30 p m at East New Hope Baptist Church with burial in Flora Hills Memorial Gardens He died Wednesday in The Memorial Hospital of Danville after a long illness Survivors include wife Louise C Thacker two foster children a sister and two brothers A separate notice reports William Thomas Weatherford Jr of Halifax Rt 2 died Saturday in a local hospital He was a tobacconist born Sept 6 1905 in Halifax County survived by wife Louise Owen Weatherford a daughter Bettie W Smith a son Wayne Weatherford a brother and five grandchildren three great grandchildren Services were held today at Asbury United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery and Masonic rites.

Murphy Murphy dies after four months of decline in Providence NC

Lula Bell Rutledge Murphy of Providence, North Carolina, died Friday night at Memorial Hospital after four months of declining health. Born June 2, 1892 in Halifax County, she lived most of her life in Providence, Caswell County, was a Methodist and attended Providence Baptist Church, widow of Charles Thomas Murphy. She leaves a son Bert Fuqua of Danville, three daughters and other relatives. Funeral services Saturday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will be at 242 Allison Drive.

Mariah Williams Mariah Hairston Williams 74 died Thursday after four days in Memorial Hospital of Danville. A native of Danville she was daughter of Betty Williams and widow of Dan Hairston. She worked for P Lorillard Tobacco Co and belonged to Nazarene Baptist Church. Funeral at 1 p.m. from L H Brooks and Bros Funeral Chapel with Rev Griffith. interment Oak Hill Cemetery. The family at Spencer McClelland 932 Monument St. Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home in charge. Also funeral for Bertha Conway former Danville resident held Sunday at 1 30 p m from First Baptist Church with Rev Griffith Jr. Family at 518 Harrison St. Mrs Conway widow of George Conway survived by daughter Mrs Iradell Byers and sons Wesley Conway and Herman Conway and several grandchildren.

He leaves a daughter Janice Burton Scottsburg a son Alvin D Royster South Boston two sisters Ella Morris Walkertown NC Dottie Layne Richmond a brother Frank Royster South Boston and one grandchild. Big Brothers Elect Officers In Danville Inc

Phil Jones was elected president of Big Brothers of Danville Inc at the meeting held last Wednesday. Steve Johnson was chosen vice president Harry Johnson secretary and Edward White treasurer. Jones urged recruiting new board members from the public Danville professionals volunteers and mothers of boys helped by the agency.
