Car Drowns After Plunge Into Potomac River
In Washington a 45 year old man, Bernard B. Martin of Arlington, Virginia, drove his car from the Virginia shore into the Potomac River near the 14th Street rail bridge and drowned. Police could not open the car doors after divers reached the nearly submerged vehicle as two park and city officers attempted rescue. By Reason Of Insanity Pruitt Is Found Innocent In Two Prison Slayings
RICHMOND AP Allen Carroll Pruitt was found innocent by reason of insanity Friday night in the fatal stabbings last January of two state penitentiary employees. The male circuit court jury deliberated six and a half hours before the verdict. Pruitt showed no emotion as the verdict was read around 9:15 p.m. His mother sobbed, declaring relief and praying for his reform. Defense attorney Patterson declined further comment. The jury had been given the case at 2:30 p.m. Judge Hening instructed the three possible verdicts, noting a death penalty is mandatory for killing a prison official.
