Piedmont Seeks to Extend Service to Chicago
Piedmont Airlines urged the Civil Aeronautics Board to allow nonstop jet service from Norfolk Richmond Charleston and Huntington to O’Hare Chicago. The plan aims to cut federal subsidies by 600000 in the first year and would push Piedmont toward 2.5 million dollars in operating profits in 1969 while serving 340000 passengers. Allegheny Airlines opposed the Norfolk Chicago leg citing prejudice to its Norfolk market. Richmond and Roanoke chambers backed nonstop Chicago service. United also seeks Richmond Chicago hops.
