Prosecutor Morse Resigns and Falls to Death in Brooklyn

Robert A. Morse, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, abruptly resigned on Tuesday then plummeted five stories from his Brooklyn Heights apartment. Police said he left a self inflicted note. Morse, 45, had sought a judgeship and appeared despondent in the days prior. He left the office around noon for a meeting, divorced since 1966, with a 19 year old daughter Deborah. The tragedy follows a turbulent career including roles as assistant U.S. attorney, private practice, and a deputy to James Donovan after the Bay of Pigs.

Nixon finances come under scrutiny after 1972 accounting

A September 1972 statement ties Nixon's rising net worth to his salary used for home improvements or bank deposits. He sold two Key Biscayne lots, owned with his daughter, for 80,842 dollars. He also received 128,611 dollars from his New York law firm after taking office and small bank interest and royalties. Tower notes additional 50,000 CD purchases after May 31, with ongoing questions from some Republicans about the accounting.

Pioneer 10 proves craft can dive near Jupiter then reach others

Kraemer says Pioneer 10 shows a spacecraft can fly close to Jupiter, survive, and use its gravity to reach planets such as Saturn or Uranus. A 1977 mission would send a television equipped craft on a 600 million mile Jupiter run then 500 million miles farther to Saturn. Pioneer 11, launched from Cape Canaveral last spring, will conduct a second Jupiter reconnaissance about a year later.

Tape Gap Noted In Nixon Conversations

Portions of the tape were erased at least a week before Judge Sirica was informed. Higby recalled that Miss Woods caused the erasure and that seven months after Haldeman resigned he identified removable documents. Powers and Buzhardt reviewed the tape on November 14 noting an erasure of three to four minutes at the start of the Ehrlichman or Haldeman segment. The 18 minute gap sits near a June 20 1972 talk with Haldeman following Ehrlichman discussion.
