Neutral Officials To Be Used At Western District Grid Games
Western District football will use neutral officials this season to reduce bias accusations. Danville Lynchburg and Roanoke associations will supply crews for specific school matchups, with Roanoke handling Roanoke vs Roanoke contests. Danville officials call GW and Halifax home games. Lynchburg covers Eagles and Blue Comets games against Roanoke schools. Piedmont handles J C Glass of Lynchburg games against Roanoke leagues. The policy stems from last year GW versus E C Glass controversy. VHSL upheld Danville's win but left the original outcome intact. Reece notes officials expect improved relations and minimal bias. Local officials will also cover junior varsity and junior high games. Travel for officials may increase but recruitment should not be affected.
