North Carolina to study speaker ban law in public hearings

A nine member study commission will begin public hearings Wednesday into North Carolina's speaker ban. The first witnesses will be representatives of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools while State Sen. Robert Morgan will present the American Legion's case in support of the law Thursday afternoon. The association warns accreditation may be withdrawn if the ban is not repealed or amended. Televised hearings start at 10 a.m. Wednesday with officials from the SACS and Vanderbilt University involved. Morgan, Senate President pro tempore and co sponsor of a related resolution, will argue for the law.
