Paris AP says President Charles de Gaulle will address the nation on television to explain his policies and answer questions. He faces protests at home over his Middle East stance, Canada visit, and decrees on social and economic reforms.
Admiral Stennis, speaking alongside Admiral Sharp, announces a series of hearings to examine the air war in South Vietnam. He questions whether the bombardment is hitting the right targets and asks if the United States should intensify or adjust air campaigns to shorten the conflict and save American lives. Stennis has long pressed for an accelerated air war.
A three hour blaze at the GEX store on Virginia Beach Boulevard caused estimated losses over 1 million dollars. The stockroom suffer heavy damage while a firewall halted spread to the main building. Two firefighters were treated for smoke injuries. all 150 employees evacuated safely.
