As More Bullets Struck Sergeant in Ia Drang

In the Ia Drang Valley clash, Sgt Willie Glaspie and Sgt Francisco Pablo, two unwounded survivors, endure the rain and jungle as a platoon from A Company 2nd Battalion 7th Regiment is cut off. Sgt Leroy Shockey and others are wounded or dead. Pablo throws grenades at the enemy while Glaspie fights to link with relief forces. The exact casualty count remains unreported due to security.

Man Fires At Children In Philadelphia Barricades House

In Philadelphia Fox Chase a man 45 identified as William Weidner fired a .22 caliber rifle at children from his home and barricaded himself inside. Police cleared the street as a crowd watched. Weidner reportedly fired inside then outside the house, wounding nothing, while his wife and son fled to neighbors.

Bearded Thief Found Living Hidden in Tree

A bearded burglar named Larry Allman 23 of Columbus was found living in a 50 foot beech tree three miles south of Columbus. He had a hammock between two limbs with a bow and arrows a jar of cheese spread jars of peanut butter and jelly and a surfboard in the tree top. Sheriff Nolting said Allman had lived there two weeks since being paroled from the Indiana State Reformatory in May after two years for burglary. Items stored in the tree were believed to be from local house burglaries.

Demonstrations continued from Page One to Provincetown and San Francisco with about 3,000 marchers. In Pittsburgh about 100 protested, while nearly 100 peace marchers left Portland for Salem. No demonstrators appeared at Los Alamos. Los Alamos Science Hall reported weaker tourist traffic. In Cleveland, roughly 450 gathered in public square. Arthur Evans of CORE claimed Negroes in Vietnam are mercenaries and counterpickets urged black power. no violence occurred.
