Plant to lay off 95 at Hopewell Firestone fibers
Firestone Synthetic Fibers in Hopewell plans 95 hourly layoffs from a 730-employee base this weekend as URW strike sours demand. A June 13 move already cut 243 workers to 32 hour weeks with full returns planned after the lull. The plant, a nylon and polyester fiber maker, serves Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., amid a 15 week strike against URW and the four major tire firms.
