Labor leaders urged a citywide general strike in support of the seven day municipal walkout that has disrupted transportation. The San Francisco Labor Council chief said a date for a total shutdown is set but not disclosed and negotiations could alter plans.
In New York Jackson leads delegates with 96 seats as Udall Carter and Wallace trail. anti abortion candidate Ellen McCormack posts a fourth place showing. In San Francisco a citywide transit strike disrupts buses taxis and schools while AFL CIO unions plan escalation to support strikers and avert a general walkout, with negotiations ongoing and police promised to stay on duty.
In Caracas on February 2 armed men seized a man connected to Owens-Illinois. A guerrilla communique cited by London New York and Paris papers demanded publication of accusations against executives, 4200 food packages for the poor, and a $116 bonus per worker at a subsidiary. The kidnapped man Nichous is from Toledo Ohio. his wife Donna appealed for his release on her son Craig’s 14th birthday.
President Ford and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson helped dedicate the LBJ Memorial Grove on the Potomac riverfront near the Lincoln Memorial. The 15 acre site in Lady Bird Johnson Park features white pines, a 43 ton pink granite rock from Texas, four inscribed stones, and private funding toward maintenance totaling about 500 thousand dollars to date. Attendance exceeded a thousand as Mrs. Johnson and family joined officials in the ceremony on a sunny day.

Hughes plans for his vast fortune center on leaving much to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and possibly the Mormon church, with Baptzer and other insiders denying a standard will. He will be buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston in a family plot beside his parents, amid years of rumors and evasive actions.
