Huron Dakota's Rise as a Central City of the James River Valley
Huron is described as a rapidly growing central Dakota city platted in 1880 with about 1700 inhabitants and rising business activity. The piece notes multiple churches, two daily newspapers, a US Signal Office, and planned government offices including the Surveyor General and a bustling land office with thousands of claims and large cash receipts in late 1882 to early 1883.
