Four Black Presidents Discuss Rhodesia War End

President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia convened a meeting of four Black presidents to seek an end to the guerrilla war against Prime Minister Tan Smith's Rhodesian regime. Zambian sources were optimistic a withdrawal of support would occur, while Mozambique pledged continued guerrilla warfare. Smith accepted a two year transition plan toward black majority rule, brokered by the United States and Britain.

Councilman's Son Injured In Motorcycle Crash

Councilman J. Kenneth Birchfild remained in critical condition at Eden Hospital Castro Valley after a motorcycle crash yesterday. His 19 year old son Kormath Birchfield faced emergency surgery for a broken neck leg fractures and other injuries. The accident occurred about 4 38 pm on Oakes Drive near the Birchfield home as police begin investigation.
