Troopers and prison guards rapidly halted a violent riot at a Missouri prison after inmates attacked guards and threatened a mass escape. Injured inmates were treated at the prison hospital, with one throat slash and others beaten. leaders were to be identified for swift punishment.
Washington Manor delegates from 14 associations met to seek a solution to cannery waste disposal problems in the area. They voted to continue opposing burning at gar age dinaps and will reconvene on the 27 at Halcyon school with invited delegates from Fairmont Terrace, Hesperian Garden's, Hillcrest Knolls, Lacqua Manor, and other groups to press the council for action.
Directors of the Trade Club of Southern Alameda County and sponsors will meet at noon tomorrow Sept. 24 at Ernie's Seafood restaurant 137715 East 14th street to discuss plans for the club's October meeting. Taxpayers will get an official look at the Alameda County Health department building at 150th avenue and Foothill boulevard Thursday September 30 as the department rolls out the carpet for its Open House celebration.
San Leandro officials plan precise zoning for Halevean and Foothill Manor within 60 to 90 days. The council adopted a simplified interim zoning plan applying residential commercial and agricultural uses to the new annexed areas. Washington Avenue will be residential with greenhouse areas zoned agricultural while existing businesses may continue but no new ones allowed.

Authorities believe Banks bludgeoned Banks and ex-husband Ur en killed himself after leaving a note. Oakland police seek pool cards and clamp down on school pool operations amid complaints.
San Lorenzo district teacher association to hold a 7:30 p.m. workshop at Bo hannoen school Monday. Committee chairmen will present plans for their groups including membership, registration, public relations, welfare, professional relations, social, teacher education, and international relations.
The Hayward Area Recreation district reports clothing found on district playgrounds during the summer. Articles may be claimed with proper identification at the district office, 1019 BR Street, Hayward. Clothing will be held for 30 days.
The township health department announced three poliomyelitis cases in the seven day period ending September 1. During the same week there were four measles cases in Hayward and nearby areas in the unincorporated district.
New owners take over the Home Cafe on Castro Valley boulevard. Mr and Mrs Albert Waddell, long time residents of Texas, assume management after the previous operators relinquished control last week. The Oakland restaurant changes hands amid local business activity.
