Public Works backs 62 million Richmond San Rafael toll bridge
The State Public Works department urged the Toll Bridge Authority to issue 62 million dollars in revenue bonds to build a San Rafael Richmond toll bridge. Estimated cost 50 million for bridge work and rights of way, with the rest for interest and a reserve. The bridge would carry about 9.1 million vehicles in year one and yield 3.209 million in tolls at about 82 cents per vehicle, sufficient to cover the bonds. The project is planned to be self supporting from tolls, with full payoff in 21 years. Maintenance over five years would total 445 thousand dollars per year. The plan states the bridge will not block other Bay crossings and allows for a salt water barrier if needed.
