Capwell's Emporium Capwell Co. prepares to open a $60 million Hayward store at 12 30 p m Wednesday with a ribbon cutting by Councilman Wrant RB Biggs and Frank Tebbs. The 190 000 square foot two level complex will employ about 800, feature a vast fashion floor and open plan interior. A new commercial area along Foothill Boulevard grows around the store with developers MacDonald Products Ben Swig and others expanding the Hayward Strip project.

Weekend traffic accidents kill three in area
Three persons died and eleven were injured in five Southern Alameda County weekend crashes. Victims include Mrs June M Wendt 56 of Alameda and Roy Willis Merrill 57 of unknown, with Henry Spez 29 of Santa Clara injured. One fatal occurred on Highway 17 near Deadman’s Curve south of Irvington when Mrs Wendt’s car collided head on with Luther Hickson Hill 54 of Napa. A freak incident on Highway 50 near Livermore killed another driver Lopez four miles east of Livermore as his stalled car was crushed by a passing vehicle. In San Francisco a 35 year old man Frederick Nielson, an insur ance claims examiner, killed his pregnant wife Jean G Nielson by striking her with a rock during a nightlong argument. Bookkeeper arrested after no-funds spree ends
